The Adapted Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning, monitoring and implementing a robust, high-quality Physical Education program in alignment with NJ Student Learning Standards for PE with appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.

This is a 12-month position

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 

-Full certification to teach Physical Education to students with disabilities

 

-The ability to provide adapted physical education (APE) instruction to students aged 3-21

 

-Expertise in providing basic instruction in health/fitness related areas: muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance and nutrition

 

-Experience writing effective summaries, assessments, goals & objectives for student IEP’s

 

-Experience in data collection for self-use and for plans/assessments by other professionals

 

-A strong ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and related service providers;

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited college or university preferred in Physical Education; completed undergraduate program in physical education and received a passing grade in a 3-credit Adapted Physical Education or Special Education course OR Bachelor's degree in Special Education and has passed the Physical Education Praxis II; experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Holds a New Jersey State physical education teaching certificate; National Certification in adapted physical education through the Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS) program preferred.
