Special Education Coordinator

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.

GDCS is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated self-starter who is experienced and capable of working with students with disabilities. This is a hybrid role that will involve both the coordination of our special education services and special education teaching. In the teacher role, this individual will be responsible for in-class support three days a week on average to co-teach for elementary inclusion classrooms.  In the coordinator role, the candidate will oversee our special education services two days a week on average and needs to be knowledgeable about special education law, IEP development and case management. 

Qualifications:

  1. Masters in Special Education.
  2. NJ DOE Standard Certification Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
  3. NJ DOE Standard Certification Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6.
  4. Demonstrates proven skills in interpersonal relations, organization and communication.
  5. Successfully completes required criminal history check and proof of eligibility to work in U.S.
  6. Such other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Duties and Responsibilities:           

Coordinator Tasks & Duties – Two (2) days a week on average

  • Maintain records for students with IEPs and Section 504 Plans to ensure compliance with mandated timelines.
  • Oversee the Child Study Team (CST).
  • Serve as a resource for information regarding special education and ML services, programs and policies and ensure that procedures are appropriate in relation to policies required by region, district, state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with and support special education and general education teachers to ensure instruction, education, modifications and accommodations adhere consistently with each student's IEPs, 504 plans and ML plans.
  • Communicate between parents, special education teachers, general education teachers, Childe Study Team (CST) members, and other school staff and support providers regarding student progress.
  • Schedule and conduct initial IEP meetings, annual IEP reviews, eligibility determination meetings, IEP implementation meetings, and re-evaluation planning meetings.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with students, teachers, faculty members and other administrative figures.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with the Hudson County Directors of Special Services.
  • Conduct educational evaluations, as needed.
  • Coordinate informal walkthroughs of the special education teachers, as well as offer suggestions for best practices in the classroom.
  • Performs other tasks and/or duties as assigned by the CAO.

Special Education Teacher Tasks & Duties – Three (3) days a week on average

  • Co-plan with general education teachers to design and modify lesson plans to fit the needs of all students.
  • Employ various co-teaching models throughout instruction in accordance with individual students’ needs.
  • Regularly meet and communicate with parents, administrators, teachers, counselors, and Child Study Team (CST) members to discuss student progress, behavior, and instructional methods.
  • Collect, analyze, and monitor academic and behavioral observations using informal and formal assessment data to identify student needs, guide instruction, and determine progress.
  • Establish and provide a positive learning environment to promote success amongst the diverse group of learners.
  • Modify assessments and expectations, as well as provide appropriate accommodations in accordance with students’ IEPs.
  • Facilitate small group remedial instruction to low performing students, students with IEPs, and students with 504 Plans.
  • Provide Tier-III reading support (Wilson Fundations).
  • Administer DIBELS benchmark testing and progress monitoring.
  • Performs other tasks and/or duties as assigned by the CAO.

Term of Employment:          

This is a twelve (12) month position.

This position offers a salary range of $75,000 - $95,000 per the school’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with specifics to be determined by years of teaching, special education experience and leadership experience. The benefits for this position include medical and dental (per parameters of Ch. 44 or 78 employee deductions) and optional employee paid vision, disability, FSA and a 403b retirement planning account.
