Job Description
InformationTechnology Support Specialist
 
Under general direction from the Supervisor of Technology, provides technical support to users, installs, upgrades, maintains and troubleshoots end user desktop hardware and software. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
The general level and nature of this position are described in the headings below. This is not an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, duties and skills; other tasks may be assigned by the Supervisor of Technology.
 
 
I. Title: Lead Technical Support Specialist
 
II. Qualifications:
  1. Ability to install and/or upgrade software, hardware and other computer components.
  2. Must be able to install, mount or replace projectors, wireless Access Points and other periferals
  3. Experience with Audio/Video equipment a definite plus
  4. Must know how to punch down or terminate CAT5/CAT6 cables
  5. Knowledge of basic networking, tracing down wires, mounting and racking switches
  6. Experience working with Windows 10/11
  7. Experience with Chromebooks and/or Mac/iPads a plus
  8. Familiarity with setting up instructional equipment (projectors, document cameras, etc.) and supporting SmartBoards
  9. Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
  10. Familiarity with Google Apps a plus
  11. Able to make minor repairs to computer equipment and network, when possible, as well as replace hardware and peripherals
  12. Comfortable working in a school environment
  13. Strong customer service skills and superior work ethics
 
III. Primary Function: Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of Technology, the IT Support Specialist will work collaboratively with other technology staff to provide support for new technologies (wireless, Mac, Google, Chromebooks, projectors), infrastructure projects (e.g., wireless, virtual infrastructure, UPS, etc.), and upkeep of the technology used by the District staff (laptops, desktops, servers, virtual machines, etc.). Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Technology
 
Reports to:     Supervisor of Technology
 
 
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Works to assure that technology in the classrooms is functional and ready to use by the beginning of the new school year
  2. Maintain desktop hardware and software
  3. Maintain printer and other peripheral hardware
  4. Support Audio/Visual equipment
  5. Instructional software/hardware support (projectors, SmartBoard support)
  6. Attends to helpdesk tickets as assigned - closing tickets and keep documentation as necessary
  7. Network/Cabling (basic) repair
  8. Ensures that service is provided to faculty, staff and students in a professional, courteous and timely manner
 
 
IV. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in providing technical support to end users (preferably in an educational environment)
Able to work with minimum supervision
Attention to details, follows instructions, collaborative and strong work ethics are essential
Technical certifications highly desirable but not required
 
V. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment with moderate noise level
The employee is occasionally required to crawl, climb, kneel, pull/push, carry, lift and/or move up to 35 lbs.
Work may be required outside of normal hours or on weekends
 
Terms of Employment:
 
Work year is 12 months.
Salary to be set by the Board of Education.
 
Evaluation:
 
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
