DEPARTMENT:                    Benedict A. Cucinella Elementary School    
JOB TITLE:                             Assistant Principal– Elementary School 
                                                Twelve Month Position Starting on or before September 1, 2022
                                                To assist the Principal in providing school-wide leadership that  ensures dynamic, high quality programming for all students.
  • NJ Principal or Principal/Supervisor Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience
  • Demonstrated success in the areas of literacy, standards-based mathematics, character education & curriculum/technology integration
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills essential
  • Energetic, child-oriented, knowledgeable educator who strives each day to maximize children’s inherent potentials
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal alien status

REPORTS TO:  Principal 


SUPERVISES:   All certified and noncertified school staff as assigned by, or in the absence of, the principal.


JOB GOAL:     To assist the principal in providing school wide leadership in the focus areas of school programming, educational climate, and student services and development, and the assessment of teacher performance. 



School Leadership 

1. Assists the principal in duties related to instruction, supervision, evaluation and the overall 

    administration of the school. 

2. Serves as lead building administrator in the absence of the principal. 

3. Requisitions supplies, textbooks and equipment, conducts inventories, maintains records, 

    and reviews receipts and purchase orders for such material. 

4. Assists in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities. 

5. Assists the principal in coordinating relevant support services. 

6. Greets and interacts with parents and visitors to the school.


Student Discipline, Supervision of Students 

1. Assists in maintaining high standards of student conduct and enforcing discipline policies. 

2. Assists in supervision of the cafeteria and playground during the lunch/recess periods.

3. Provides guidance to individual students, resolves individual behavioral problems. 


Record-keeping, Reporting and Scheduling 

1. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the 

    attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions. 

2. Assists in the design of the Master Schedule, or assumes that responsibility as assigned by 

    the principal. 

3. Assists in the preparation of required reports of violence, vandalism, substance abuse, HIB, 

    and possession of firearms. 

4. Performs such record-keeping and reporting functions as the principal may direct. 


Interaction with School Staff 

1. Conducts observations of teaching staff members in accordance with AchieveNJ guidelines; 

    prepares reports; and offers constructive recommendations/suggestions for improvement. 

2. Engages faculty in the collection and analyses of various student/school data in support of 

    overall student growth and development (i.e. Student Growth Objectives)

3. Supervises extracurricular programs, assembly programs and assignment of faculty 

    members to assist at school functions. 

4. Assists in the coordination and supervision of special programs funded by the state or federal 


5. Makes recommendations to the principal for changes in policies, personnel practices and 

    other such matters that may result in a more effective school administration. 


Relationships with Students, Parents and Community 

1. Establishes and maintains a healthy, productive rapport with students. 

2. Attends and/or organizes special events, activities, and functions designed to recognize 

    student achievements and celebrate the learning process. 

3. Assists in communicating school information, happenings, and achievements to parents (and 

    community at large when deemed appropriate).

4. Helps plan and supervise regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences; and makes 

    arrangements for special conferences as necessary. 

5. Works in collaboration with law enforcement and child-oriented agencies to support the 

    welfare of all children.



1.Serves as an active, contributing member of the district’s Leadership Team.

2. Assumes responsibility for her/his continuing professional growth and development via 

    attendance at professional meetings, memberships in professional organizations, enrollment 

    in advanced courses and by reading professional journals and other publications. 

3. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the principal or superintendent. 



12-month Position; Conditions per Negotiated Agreement (WTAA); Salaries as Set by the Board of Education.



 Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey State law and the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of certified staff.
