ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION


QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Earned a master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
2. Hold a valid School Administrator/Principal Certificate
3. A minimum of 5 years' experience as a principal or central office administrator

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools 

JOB GOALS: 

The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction will monitor, coordinate and supervise all school operations, including but not limited to:  student achievement, staff evaluations, parent involvement, school safety, personnel decisions, principal performance, staff attendance, school climate, data analysis, and how it drives instruction, budget development, professional development, leadership training, and community partnerships.  

The Assistant Superintendent provides leadership in promoting the educational objectives and values of collaborative planning, district curriculum, effective instructional practices, and responsive programs and services.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Serve as a contributing member of the district's Leadership Team and collaborate with the different functional units (Curriculum and Instruction, Operations, Community Services, Personnel Services, and Pupil Personnel Services) on district and school initiatives and problems.
2. Research and respond to inquiries from the school administrators concerning building-based issues.
3. Provide educational leadership, administrative direction, supervision, and technical assistance and support to schools.
4. Demonstrate and develop high academic and behavioral expectations, collaborative planning and program development, responsive management, and personal accountability.
5. Monitor and evaluate administrators in all areas of operations.
6. Review results and /or scores of mandated pupil tests to monitor progress and identify deficiencies.
7. Coordinate the dissemination of information, policies, regulations, procedures, and reports to school administrators.
8. Conduct classroom visitations to assess educational and operational effectiveness and assist school administrators to establish and maintain a positive learning and working environment.
9. Attend regular meetings including county curriculum and county superintendent meetings.
10. Visit and monitor schools as required to make appropriate educational and operational assessments.
11. Coordinate in-service training and professional development opportunities for staff and administrators.
12. Monitor student enrollment, staff and student attendance, performance evaluations, curriculum benchmarks, student safety data, standardized test results, and other school reports for accuracy, compliance, established timelines, and the identification of improvement objectives.
13. Ensure high-quality teaching staff is recommended for tenured positions.
14. Establish and maintain program articulation and open communication among schools.
15. Attend Board of Education Meetings and prepare reports for the board as requested by the superintendent.
16. Participate in the recruitment and selection of competent professional staff.
17. Coordinate orientation meetings, schedule development, disciplinary procedures, parental notification, and reporting of pupil progress among schools.
18. Ensure fair and consistent implementation of policies, regulations, procedures, discipline, promotion requirements.
19. Collaborate with building and district administrators to assess program effectiveness and develop appropriate improvement objectives and corrective action plans.
20. Recognize staff and student activities and achievements.
21. Maintain a positive, collaborative, and mutually supportive working relationship with community agencies, parents, students, and district and school staff.
22. Continue to grow professionally through research, workshops, and collaboration with colleagues.
23. Protect the confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
24. Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the Superintendent and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

25. Adhere to New Jersey school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures, and contractual obligations.

     

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Twelve month year. 

    Salary: The salary for this position shall be set in accordance with the negotiated salary guidelines in the VTAA agreement, https://www.voorhees.k12.nj.us/our-district-09/employment-opportunities/emplyment-contracts  Benefits: Full-time employees are eligible for medical, dental and vision benefits. Sick, personal, and bereavement days are provided. Certain professional development and/or training may be eligible for reimbursement. Position is eligible for membership in TPAF.
