Position Summary:

Thrive Charter School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Teacher of English to join our high school faculty. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to cultivating students' literacy skills, fostering critical thinking, and helping students develop a love for reading and writing. This position involves teaching English Language Arts across various grade levels and collaborating with colleagues to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction: Teach a variety of English courses including literature, composition, writing, and critical thinking to students in grades 9-12.

  • Curriculum Development: Implement and enrich the English curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of all students, aligns with state standards, and reflects the latest best practices in language and literacy education.

  • Reading and Writing Instruction: Foster students' abilities in both reading comprehension and writing across multiple genres, emphasizing analytical, creative, and argumentative writing.

  • Assessment: Regularly assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and adjust teaching strategies to meet diverse learning styles.

  • Classroom Management: Create a respectful and productive classroom environment where all students feel safe and motivated to learn.

  • Collaboration: Work with fellow English department faculty members to align teaching methods, share resources, and engage in school-wide professional development.

  • Student Engagement: Encourage a passion for literature by incorporating diverse texts, from classic works to contemporary pieces, to ensure students develop a well-rounded appreciation for various forms of writing.

  • Student Support: Offer extra assistance to students who require additional support, including tutoring sessions and personalized guidance to improve their reading, writing, and comprehension skills.

  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom expectations.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field.

  • Valid New Jersey teaching certification in English and Secondary Education.

  • Experience teaching English at the high school level, with a focus on literature, writing, and language arts.

  • Strong understanding of the New Jersey State Standards for English Language Arts and the ability to integrate them into daily lessons.

  • Ability to design and implement engaging, student-centered lessons and assessments.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to engage and motivate students.

  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.

  • A passion for literature, language, and helping students develop as critical thinkers and effective communicators.
