JOB GOAL:

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary to realize a degree of individual and team success. The student will receive instruction that leads to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self- discipline and self-confidence.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL:

1. The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community image of the entire system. Community/parent pressure for winning performances must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship.

2. In cases not specifically covered by this job description, it shall be assumed that a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment.

ROUTIINE DUTIES:

1. Helps recruit new team members.

2. Assists with preseason practices, when necessary.

3. Assists with the gathering of all information necessary to plan strategy for upcoming competitions.

4. Prepares student athletes physically, mentally and emotionally for competition.

5. Rides to athletic events with the team.

6. Conducts all aspects of specific interscholastic sport in accordance with District, Conference and N.J.S.I.A.A. policies.

7. Reports injuries to trainer (and to parents as well if necessary).

8. Assists with the care, distribution and accounting of supplies, equipment and uniforms.

9. Assists with the keeping of player records.

10. Assists with determining team and student athlete awards.

11. Assists with the completion of tournament entries and other reports.

HUMAN RELATIONS:

1. Teaches sportsmanship, teamwork and the fundamentals of the sport

2. Safeguards the safety of players.

3. Regulates the conduct of players consistent with the District’s Code of Conduct.

ORGANIZATION AND PLANNING:

1. Demonstrates a working knowledge of Conference rules and State rules and regulations for athletic contests.

2. Develops abilities, character and self-confidence of players.

3. Assists with the scouting and game preparation for opposing teams.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists players in gaining admission to college.

2. Assists the head coach with the college recruiting process.
