SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER – JERSEY CITY SCHOOLS

The Northern Region Educational Services Commission (NRESC), with its central office located in Wayne, New Jersey has an opening for a School Social Worker for the Jersey City Schools on an as needed basis for the 2025-2026 school year.

Certifications:

• School Social Worker by the New Jersey State Department of Education

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the diverse needs of students with and without disabilities and appropriate intervention practices.
• Counseling experience with non-traditional, disruptive and disaffected students.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Criminal History background check.
• Proof of US citizenship.
• Familiarity with Google Applications (slides, sheets, docs and drive)

Responsibilities:

• Provides implementation services for students who require the services of a School Social Worker, including social assessments, IEP (initial and reevaluations).
• Develops and modifies behavioral management and educational programs as prescribed in the student’s individual educational plan as directed by the building level administrator.
• Provides individual, group, and family counseling services as needed.
• Monitors student psychosocial progress.
• Provides student crisis intervention “as needed” and establishes effective and safe procedures for effective staff intervention.
• Provides educational support for a positive therapeutic classroom atmosphere through proactive crisis intervention and direct intervention to students as required.
• Ability to communicate effective in English, both orally and in writing with students, .staff, parents, and community while adhering to confidentiality guidelines at all times.
• Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities; and
• Any duties or responsibilities assigned by the Supervisor.

Salary Range:  $250.00 per evaluation; meeting rate - $60.00 per hour
