ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
1.0 FTE – DISTRICT
AVAILABLE JULY 1, 2022
THE POSITION
 
Successful candidate will supervise various administrators across the district; lead curriculum development district-wide for every grade and subject; monitor the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum for grades K-12; lead QSAC development; direct district-wide professional development; assist in the development of those sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction and prepares for, attends and contributes to Board of Education meetings.
 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
 
  1. NJ Administrative Certificate with School Administrator, Principal or Supervisor endorsement.
  2. Successful experience in teaching, curriculum development, program assessment and staff development.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in areas of personnel management, school administration and program implementation
  4. Strong leadership and communication skills.
  5. Required criminal history background check; and medical screening
  6. Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS                                
  • Administrator Certificate with School Administrator endorsement

JOB GOAL(S)                  To assist the Superintendent in the areas listed below to ensure all students are provided the opportunity for educational excellence and are challenged to perform at a high level.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY        K-12 Subject Area Supervisors, 6-12 Subject Area Supervisors, Assistant Director of Special Education, and designated support staff.
          
                                               
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Supervises K-12 Subject Area Supervisors,  6-12 Supervisors, K-5 Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Planning and Assessment
  1. Ensure coordination, articulation, and maintenance of the K-12 district vision for each subject area.
  2. Plan and implement school district annual goals and objectives as they pertain to curriculum development, assessment, and professional development.
 
  1. Monitors the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum, K-12
  1. Consults with the Director of Planning and Assessment in developing and implementing District wide assessment instruments.
  2. Monitors the communication of approved curriculum to professional staff.
  3. Holds regularly scheduled meetings with program leaders to collectively address shared issues and plans collective efforts.
  4. Monitors, as set forth in the Program Review Model, the assessment of curriculum on a regular basis.
  5. Submits, for Board adoption, all new course proposals, curriculum, related texts and books.
  6. Supervises the development and implementation of the District's Enrichment program.
  7. Supervises and implements the District's Project Ahead program through the building principals.
  8. Develops and submits to the State and Federal governments No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Consolidated Grant (Titles I, II, III, IV, V) and other federal/state grants pertaining to instruction.
  9. Maintains a current list of approved instructional materials.
  10. Directs the creation of all curriculum guides and materials for distribution among the instructional staff.
  11. Supervises preparation of the overview of curriculum for distribution to parents.
  12. Maintains a current district library of all courses and programs of study and distribute to all schools.
 
  1. In consultation with the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary and Middle School Education, supervises the development, implementation, and evaluation of staff development training programs for professional personnel.
  1. Coordinates the Summer Institute for Teachers new to the district at the beginning of each academic year.
 
  1. Assists in the development of those sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction.
  1. Prepares and administers, in collaboration with program leaders, the instructional budget.
  2. Monitors program budgets and building budgets as they relate to program, ensuring that budgets reflect district program needs.
  3. Monitors and find solutions to budgetary/curriculum disputes, if necessary, among program leaders and building principals.
  4. Oversees the expenditures of SOMEA/ASCA Sabbatical funds for curriculum development.
  5. Approves and coordinates the purchase all instructional materials for the Enrichment program and for newly created classrooms due to increased enrollment.
 
  1. Perform all other duties assigned by the Superintendent.
 
The following responsibilities were assigned by the Superintendent and are related to the management of the Special Education Department:
 
Oversees and administers the operation of the Special Education Department in consultation with the Director of Planning and Assessment and the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary and Middle School Education.
  1. Recommends staff for employment and assignment.
  2. Coordinates all special education services with those offered by other departments so as to avoid duplication and increase departmental effectiveness.
  3. Develops and submits grants and proposals to obtain state and federal funds for the handicapped.
  4. Prepares all required state and federal reports that pertain specifically to handicapped students and/or the health needs of students.
  5. Prepares the special education budget annually and monitors expenditures.
 
 
 WORKING RELATIONSHIPS OF THE POSITION       To maintain effective relationships with teachers, parents, students, administrators and appropriate community groups.
