Upper School Literacy Teacher

We are seeking a creative and progressive upper school (6th-12th grade) teacher, focused on middle school literacy and high school humanities, which is team taught and combines literacy and global studies.  This part time position is structured as follows:

Monday, 9:00 - 3:15
Wednesday, 9:00 - 3:15
Thursday, 1:00 - 3:15
Friday, 9:00 - 12:00

Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing and delivering an integrated, creative literacy class following student interests and passions, and aligned with standards, in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Working with diverse learning styles in a mixed-age classroom.
  • Using portfolio assessment and grading rubrics to evaluate teaching effectiveness and student progress.
  • Classroom experience. We will consider certified and noncertified teachers.

This position is best suited for an experienced teacher who is looking for a dynamic opportunity to engage small groups of students and share their passion for Literacy Arts. While in the high school, you will be working collegially with peers and guest teachers to incorporate anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science and law, psychology, sociology, etc. In the Outdoor School, grades 6th-8th, students learn literacy both in and outdoors with sit-spot journalling, read/response journals and direct instruction through mini-lessons based on each student’s writing. Possibilities include NaNoWriMo, Story Corp, The Moth or other resources that provide inspiration.
