The North Bergen School District is seeking a dedicated and dynamic High School Science Teacher committed to fostering scientific literacy, critical thinking, and student-led inquiry at North Bergen High School. The ideal candidate will inspire all students, preparing them not only for college and career pathways in STEM but also for success as informed citizens in the 21st century.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

The High School Science Teacher is expected to fulfill the following core functions, ensuring alignment with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science (NJSLS-S) and the district's mission to prepare students for college and careers:

  • Instructional Excellence:
  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in assigned high school science subjects (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or electives like Forensics or Engineering).
  • Implement inquiry-based learning and project/performance-based tasks that facilitate student exploration, questioning, and the application of scientific practices.
  • Design and execute interactive, hands-on laboratory experiences, ensuring all safety protocols are strictly followed.
  • Differentiated Learning & Support:
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to differentiate instruction effectively, addressing the diverse learning needs of all students, including English Language Learners and students with special needs.
  • Regularly assess student progress using both formative and summative methods, analyze data, and provide timely, actionable feedback to drive student growth and inform instructional adjustments.
  • Collaboration and Curriculum Development:
  • Actively collaborate with the North Bergen High School Science Department and the District Supervisor of Science on curriculum evaluation, alignment, and refinement to ensure rigor and coherence across all science courses.
  • Participate in school and district-wide professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions to continuously improve teaching practice and stay current with best practices in science education.
  • School and Community Engagement:
  • Cultivate a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages scientific discourse, risk-taking, and problem-solving.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with students, parents/families, and colleagues to support student achievement and well-being, including active communication about student progress and classroom activities.
  • Contribute to the school's culture and participate in school-wide initiatives and extracurricular activities, especially those related to the STEM Academy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of or eligibility for appropriate New Jersey State Certification in a High School Science area (e.g., Teacher of Science, or a specific endorsement like Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NJSLS-Science and proven ability to teach high-level academic content.
