JOB DESCRIPTION


TITLE:  B-001 - Elementary/Secondary Teacher 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

 
  1. A teacher must be fully certified according to the requirements set forth by the Department of Education of the State of New Jersey.

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal 

 

JOB GOAL: Under the guidance of the Building Principal, ensures that the District’s standards for student instruction and curriculum content is followed, consistent with the student population to which the teacher is assigned.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning and Preparation

  • Maintains lesson plans as required

  • Plans and implements an instructional program within the classroom in a manner consistent with policies, curriculum, and resources approved by the Wayne Board of Education and aligned to NJ state standards and mandates

  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that provide appropriate instructional strategies in order to reach all students

  • Plan activities and lessons that are age-appropriate and meet the needs, interests, and ability levels of all students

  • Plans with flexibility to meet the varying needs of all students

  • Ensures all requirements indicated in a student’s IEP are followed and incorporated

  • Maintains accurate and timely records of student progress

Instruction and Assessment

  • Plans and implements a quality instructional program within the classroom in a manner consistent with policies and curriculum approved by the Wayne Board of Education and aligned to NJ State Standards and mandates

  • Differentiates for instructional purposes to enhance pupil performance and provide for individual needs

  • Maintains standard of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive school and classroom environment

  • Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives in accordance with the District’s philosophy of education

  • Effectively utilizes available technologies

  • Continually assesses student progress using formative and summative assessments and provides progress reports as required

  • Uses data to inform appropriate, engaging instruction 

  • Maintains accurate student records, and collects data regarding student progress and interventions

  • Utilizes class time effectively

  • As directed by the building Principal or Central Office administration, administers standardized testing in accordance with District policy and/or applicable law

Classroom Environment

  • Organizes and maintains a pleasant and stimulating classroom environment for learning which provides for individual differences

  • Implements all district policies

  • Creates an environment of respect and rapport, establishing a culture for learning

Professional Responsibilities

  • Meets deadlines and handles other routine assignments in a punctual manner 

  • Attends staff meetings, in-service training sessions and curriculum development meetings as provided by the District

  • Is punctual and maintains regular in attendance at school and at scheduled school meetings

  • On a regular basis, reports and interprets to the student and their parent/guardian the student’s academic progress and achievement

  • After implementing interventions and collecting and documenting specific student data, refers the students with behavioral, physical or learning disabilities to the District’s specialists as required and appropriate

  • Communicates with appropriate school personnel regarding pupil instructional needs and progress

  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to plan lessons and meet the needs of all students

  • Achieves and maintains proficiency in District computer programs and applications pertinent to support the position

  • Keeps informed and follow all school and district policies and procedures

  • Strives to enhance professional knowledge through professional reading, participation in workshops, and staff development offerings

  • Completes all state and district mandated trainings and other professional development requirements annually

  • Maintains confidentiality about students in accordance with state and federal law, as well as district policy

  • Performs other  duties or responsibilities assigned by the building administrator or Central Office administration

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

ANNUAL EVALUATION:

 

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of  non-certificated staff.

  1. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times
