Description

The JCC of Central NJ seeks a certified School Counselor, Social Worker, or Psychologist to join our camper care team to provide social-emotional guidance and support to staff, campers and their families. The camp MESH Director is responsible for providing emotional support and strategies to guide staff and campers around conflict resolution, social skills, engagement, emotional regulation, and any other mental health challenges that arise in the camp setting including assessing risk and the need for additional professional help. Occasional off-campus travel and overnights may be required in an emergent situation. This is a seasonal, full-time, overtime exempt position supervised by the Director of Inclusion and Diversity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in pre-camp staff trainings
  • Support children and staff in transitioning to the camp environment
  • Offer emotional support and guidance to individual campers and camper groups
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to individual staff and groups of staff
  • Consult with staff about individual camper and group challenges
  • Work with staff on conflict resolution and social skills
  • Provide direct support and strategies to campers and staff as needed
  • Proactively incorporate skills and strategies to contribute to a positive camp environment
  • Respond to concerns of parents in conjunction with our Camper Care Team
  • Participate in camp activities and be an involved member of the staff
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely manner
  • Be a leader and represent our camp values
  • Be present and engaging during camp program hours of 8:00am-4:30pm

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology with a minimum of 3 years practical experience with children, young adults and/or families
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member
  • Ability to lead and deescalate during challenging situations and behaviors
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals of all ages, abilities and backgrounds
  • Ability to accept guidance and feedback and make immediate changes
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills in a variety of camp settings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Handle With Care certification preferred but not required

 

Physical Demands:

  • Work outside for 8 hours in summer weather across a varying terrain
  • Potential lifting, bending, sitting on floor, walking, running throughout the camp day
  • Stand and walk most of the day moving from activity to activity, and group to group

Salary Range: $8,000 - $10,000 for 7 weeks depending on degree, licensure, and experience
