To provide the best instructional practices and research-based interventions in math and literacy content skills included in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.  The strategist works with students, who are below grade level, one-on-one or in small groups.  Instructional methods are adapted and lessons are extended to meet the diverse academic needs of targeted students.  The strategist works collaboratively with classroom teachers and academic coaches to determine instructional sequence and to monitor learning goals/objectives.

Position Reports To:       Principal/Teachers/Academic Coaches

Certification Required: NJ Teacher Certification


Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field.
Preference for a minimum of one (1) years experience teaching in a school setting.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Knowledge of research based practices and specific learning strategies to improve student achievement.

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and present various instructional materials based on student need subject matter to students using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods from prescribed curriculum.
  2. Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups in order to support the core curriculum and assist students to master skills by reinforcing learning concepts presented by teachers.
  3. To analyze assessment data and provide push-in and pull-out research based interventions and progress monitor the performance of students.
  4. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  5. Observe students’ performance, and record relevant data to assess progress.
  6. Collaborate with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
  7. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with teachers, administrative staff and students.
  8. Participate in required professional staff development activities.
  9. Complete other tasks/duties as directed by supervisor.
