The Superintendent invites qualified and interested candidates to apply for the position of Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) .

The Camden City School District is in the midst of a transformative period marked by progress. Since 2012, the graduation rate has increased from 49 percent to 70 percent while the dropout rate has decreased from 21 percent to 12 percent. Across all District schools, staff are focused on providing the appropriate supports to students to ensure they are successful. In the past few years, this focus has included a shift toward restorative practices and trauma-informed care, which has led to declining suspension rates and increased attention on school climate and culture.

Phase Two of the Camden Commitment outlines the District’s plan to ensure that every student in the city is enrolled in an excellent school that meets his or her unique needs. The Camden Commitment represents the District’s belief in the power of high expectations and the extraordinary potential of our students. As a part of this plan, the District is in the process of streamlining and transforming the Central Office into a school support organization focused on ensuring that all schools are well-equipped to provide all of their students with an excellent education.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) in Camden City School District will work to identify and support students in need of behavioral, emotional or social support and help implement individualized support and interventions at the school-based level. This role is a great opportunity to provide outstanding support to students in need of additional services to ensure that they receive an excellent education in the classroom that is aligned with The Camden Commitment. Through this role, the LDTC will serve as an educational consultant to teachers, principals, and parents, and function as an integral member of the Child Study Team in order to positively impact the academic goals of all students in Camden.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree
  • Standard New Jersey Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant Certificate
  • Must pass a performance assessment to establish skill and competence in the position
  • A valid driver’s license as well as current insurance and vehicle with valid registration
  • Required criminal history background check, physical, and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Major responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a part of the Special Services Child Study Team in evaluating, classifying and recommending programs for pupils
  • Consult with other district personnel, e.g., principals, social workers, school psychologist, counselors, teachers and related services personnel regarding pupil’s behaviors and needs
  • Serve as a contact person, case manager, on the child study team when appropriate or appointed
  • Administer educational and perceptual testing to all referrals and as recommended for an evaluation plan in reevaluations
  • Assist in identifying and providing consultation and educational programs for classified and non-classified pupils
  • Participate in the development of the evaluation plan with child study team
  • Consult with parents on site and in their homes concerning pre-referral intervention, special class placement, referral to outside agencies and program development for pupil
  • Consult with school personnel on pupil needs when requested or appropriate and to assist in development of classroom intervention
  • Ensure that all records in the case folder are in order and completed within the mandated time frame, reviewing and updating at regular intervals
  • Participate in the development of IEP’s for all assigned pupils
  • Perform all duties related to child study team function as assigned by Supervisor/Director
  • Attend and participate in Back to School Night, report card nights, and parent-teacher conferences
  • Candidate will be required to perform a hiring exercise before being deemed qualified and selected for the position
  • Will be required to support projects and initiatives in other divisions and departments throughout CCSD on an as-needed basis
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Supervisor’s designee
