Special Education Teacher (Grades K-8)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs by providing targeted instruction and services aligned with their IEPs. This role involves collaborating with the Child Study Team, general education staff, and families to help students achieve academic and personal growth in an inclusive setting.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • NJ Elementary School Teacher in Grades K - 6 and/or Middle School with Subject matter Specialization Grades 5-8
  • NJ Special Education Endorsment - TOSD or TOH
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching methods
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Criminal history background check and physical clearance 
  • Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate classroom tasks as outlined by the building principal
  • Work to achieve the New Jersey Learning Standards and district educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning in the classroom using board-adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activities
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Monitor students' academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction. Effectively communicate standards and progress with parents regularly
  • Maintain productive relationships with parents and staff members
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning
  • Maintain professional competence and pursue continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities
  • Participate in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groups
  • Make effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program
  • Perform other duties within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned by district administration
  • Collaborate with the Child Study Team to assess student needs and develop appropriate educational plans.
  • Create, implement, and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, providing input on goals,  accommodations, and services to support student success.
  • Monitor student progress and update IEPs as necessary to reflect evolving academic and behavioral needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to create PLAAFPs, goals, and objectives for IEPs.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, timely, and aligned with legal requirements.
