K-2 ELA and Math Instructional Coach

Reports To: Assistant Principal of Instruction

Position Summary: 

The K-2 ELA and Math Instructional Coach is a teacher-leader responsible for strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy instruction to drive student achievement across grades K–2. The coach partners with teachers, interventionists, and administrators to improve instructional practice through data-driven coaching cycles, lesson planning, and targeted professional development. This role focuses on building teacher capacity in early literacy development, mathematical content knowledge, and standards-aligned instruction, ensuring that all coaching and classroom practices connect broadly to the school's overarching macro instructional vision and goals. The coach acts as a dedicated support system for teachers and will actively step in to teach and model lessons to demonstrate best practices in real-time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group instructional coaching to K–2 teachers in both ELA and Mathematics
• Support the implementation of the school’s K-2 curricula, ensuring alignment to early childhood standards, foundational reading science, and math best practices
• Analyze student data (i-Ready, interim assessments) to inform instruction, guide coaching priorities, and monitor student growth
• Co-plan, actively model lessons, and debrief with a focus on phonics, reading comprehension, conceptual math understanding, and procedural fluency
• Regularly teach targeted small groups or whole-class lessons to demonstrate effective instructional strategies, discourse, and classroom management
• Observe instruction and provide clear, actionable feedback aligned to content-specific instructional practices
• Lead grade-level or department meetings focused on literacy and math data, planning, and continuous instructional improvement
• Collaborate with interventionists to align Tier 2/3 supports with core K-2 classroom instruction
• Design and facilitate ELA and Math-focused professional development and PLCs
• Support teachers in developing strong classroom systems for literacy centers, math workshop, small group instruction, and independent practice

Qualifications:

• NJ teaching certification required; ELA, Reading Specialist, or Supervisor certification preferred
• 5+ years of K–2 teaching experience with a track record of strong student outcomes in both reading and math
• Experience coaching, mentoring, or leading adult learning strongly preferred
• Deep understanding of early literacy development, reading science, mathematical practices, and K-2 standards
• Ability to analyze data and translate it into actionable instructional moves
• Strong communication and facilitation skills with a proven ability to build trust and effectively support adult learners
