Description Summary:

The Multiple Disabilities (MD) Self Contained Program at Lafayette School is dedicated to providing comprehensive educational support to students with diverse and complex needs. Our mission is to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where each student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are seeking a passionate and qualified individual to join our team full-time, committed to fostering the growth and development of students with multiple disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including special education teachers, therapists, and support staff, to create a cohesive learning environment.
  • Provide direct instruction and support in academic, social, and life skills to enhance students' independence and self-advocacy.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies and interventions as necessary to ensure effective learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate communication between students, families, and school personnel to promote a supportive and engaged learning community.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and multiple disabilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and any incidents, ensuring compliance with school policies and regulations.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of students with multiple disabilities within the school and the broader community.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages respect, empathy, and collaboration among all students.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Special Education (TOSD or TOH) and Elementary Certification required
  • Experience working with students with multiple disabilities in an educational setting and a variety of needs - behavioral, academic, emotional
  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation, as well as knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about current trends in special education.
