Job Description: Academic Interventionist 

LEAD Charter School, NJ's first single sourced charter high school, seeks an exceptional Academic Interventionist to join the efforts of a community that’s poised to transform equity through opportunity for young people in Newark. The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 in Newark, NJ to master the essential skills crucial for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership within a global society. LEAD implements the Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) school model. Key design elements support the unique academic and nonacademic needs of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling. The innovative NOYN model re-engages young people via active participation in rigorous and relevant content, and standards-driven competency-based instruction aligned with emerging market demands. Through applied learning opportunities with partner organizations and corporations, LEAD prepares students to compete in the local economy and/or transition to postsecondary education. Academic Interventionist

JOB GOAL: To lead implementation of the OYN school model in the assigned subject and support implementation across the school, raising student achievement in preparation for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership. 


Academic Interventionists at LEAD embody the commitment, energy, and heart needed to excel in our classrooms. Academic Interventionists who want to work at LEAD should expect the job to be challenging—and they should also expect feedback, collaboration, and support from teammates and School Leaders in order to help them meet those challenges. 


REPORTS TO: Head of School



  1. Valid New Jersey Teacher 9-12 Certification or Certificate of Eligibility in Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, Physical Education, Special Education, Social Studies, or other applicable NJ High School courses. 

  2. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

  3. Demonstrated success in raising student achievement with underserved populations

  4. Strong commitment to youth and ability to work effectively with parents.

  5. Successful in creating collaborative relationships or coalitions.

  6. Commitment to NOYN school model and implementation with fidelity.

  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including use of office productivity software.

  8. Robust analytical skills, with an ability to use data to drive student achievement.

  9. Capacity to personalize instruction through differentiation, including use of blended learning.

  10. Required criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status & NJ residency.



  1. Plans, in accordance with established procedures both a program of study and lessons which are consistent with the approved course of study and which meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.

  2. Implements by instruction and action the School’s philosophy and the State and School’s instructional goals.

  3. Ensures satisfactory pupil progress and growth toward stated objectives of instruction.
