Middle School Learning Specialist

Morristown Beard School seeks a dynamic and dedicated full-time Middle School Learning Specialist for intensive academic interventions for the 2025-2026 academic year. The successful candidate will design and implement small group (dyad) academic interventions and support the curricular work of the general education teaching team.
Candidates should have experience with, and knowledge of, reading and writing curriculum development and strong pedagogy skills. We welcome candidates who work collaboratively in a small community, have strong verbal and written communication skills, cultural competence, and positive interpersonal relationships with students, faculty and families. Candidates should have middle school teaching experience.

Primary responsibilities include:
- Understanding various learning profiles and implementing relevant evidence-based interventions.
- Provide pull-out direct instructional support for students in grades 6-8 in reading, writing, and math.
- Maintain regular times established to check in on students identified as needing support.
- Team plan with teaching teams and use classroom instruction resources and assignments to devise individualized instructional and scaffolded learning strategies.
- Provide short-term reteaching of skills that are no longer being taught in the classroom.
- Provide consultation to faculty as to what strategies may be effective for students needing support, develop need-based interventions and ways to measure the effectiveness of the interventions.
- Provide written comments for progress reports on children getting support.
- Communicate updates and progress on a regular basis with families of students who are receiving support.
- Meet regularly with the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning to discuss student learning progress.
- Maintain contact with grade-level teaching teams regarding student assessments and services and follow up paperwork.
Requirements:
- A master’s degree, preferably in education or a related field, and/or additional certifications, such as a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) or Special Education, are preferred.
