Role: School Psychologist

Reports to: Director of Special Education

Job Description:  

The School Psychologist, a member of the child study team, has responsibilities which include working with the social worker and the learning disabilities teacher consultant in planning strategies and program for referred and/or classified students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administers selected tests to referred students, analysis of test results and develops recommendations based upon findings
  • Acts as a consultant to administrative and school personnel and students regarding behavior/adjustment problems of students
  • Conducts informational and/or counseling sessions with parents and/or students
  • Intervenes in crisis situations directly with students and consults with school personnel Participates in child study team conferences, i.e., interdisciplinary sharing of data, as well as conferences with parents and school personnel
  • Assists in coordinating, developing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of Individual Education Plans
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee

  • Take part in and contribute to department and whole faculty activities
  • Enthusiastically contribute cross-curricular links and initiatives and Leadership activities
  • Be involved in new responsibilities within the department as part of an ongoing process of professional development
  • Plus any duties that the Administration deems necessary for the effective operation of the School

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Personal Qualities:

  • Master’s Degree with specialization in Psychology
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in education psychology and/or clinical psychology preferred
  • Must hold NJ certificate as School Psychologist
  • Such other qualifications of academic, professional and personal excellence as the Edison Township Board of Education may specify
