TITLE: Specialty Director
REPORT TO: Director

OVERVIEW: As the Specialty Director, you will be responsible for the oversight of all specialty programs on camp as well as serve as the liaison between the different Specialty camps within the JCC (Dance, Drama, Comedy, Basketball, Tennis, Sports Plus, Jr. Sports Plus, Fine Arts, Science, Big Idea & Start Up Nation). In this capacity, you will directly oversee all specialty staff within the NKDC program (including the Fine Arts & Science Directors) and serve as a go between for all Directors of the respective verticals. Additionally, you will be tasked with helping to instill our C.I.R.C.L.E.S. culture while establishing personal relationships with our camp community.

You will work closely with the Associate Director regarding schedules, changes, and general needs/requests throughout the summer as well as oversee both Athletic Directors and to ensure their success. You will also be tasked with pivoting when needed regarding weather and any other unforeseen circumstances.


  • Schedules
    1. Collaborate with Associate Director and Program Directors to create:
      1. Specialist schedules
      2. Special Events
  • Rainy day/Heat wave
  1. Extended Day
  • Supplies
    1. Responsible for oversight of all equipment and supplies needed to run each specialty. For Fine Arts, Science, Arts & Crafts and Cooking, the supplies will be ordered by the specialists directly, but you are responsible for all other specialty supplies
    2. Manage inventory and replace/reorder when necessary
  • Logistics
    1. Ensure all activities are covered daily and find replacements when necessary
    2. Participate in ropes training
    3. Manage specialty floaters/J.Crew
    4. Communicate all changes to Program Directors and/or Unit Heads
  • Administrative
    1. Work closely with all Specialty Camps to ensure they are included in specific specials as needed/requested
    2. Participate in AM/PM carpool
    3. Provide orientation for all specialists (time/dates TBD)
    4. Ensure all materials/equipment are put away at the end of each day

These are not the only duties required. Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required.


  • College graduate or equivalent experience working with children
  • Training and experience in athletic activities; physical education degree preferred
  • Current CPR and first aid certifications
  • Ability to coordinate multi-faceted athletic program and supervise program assistants
  • Knowledge and skills in officiating team and individual sports and the ability to teach these skills to staff and campers of all ages
  • Ability to maintain athletic facilities
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision
  • Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience
