Description Position: Assistant to the School Business Administrator
Position Type: Administrator

Under the direction of the School Business Administrator, works to ensure the  smooth  and efficient operations of the Business Office in the major areas of Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Human Resources, Payroll, Accounting, Grant and Agency Fund Accounting  and  General Business Office Operations. Contributes to the efficient operations of the Business Office, by prompt and accurate processing of purchase orders, maintaining of inventories of equipment and other appropriate purchases. Performs all Accounts Payable functions, ensuring timely  and accurate payment of all invoices. Coordinates and monitors the state and school's health benefits and retirement plans and programs. Ensures the prompt and accurate processing of payroll, including the maintenance of staff records and related matters. Performs general accounting functions for the timely and accurate reporting of financial statements. Prepares and post monthly payroll and payroll agency financial transactions. Performs all bank account reconciliations including monthly cash report. Contributes to the efficient operations of the Business Office.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.

  • Experience in school accounting, New Jersey State purchasing requirements, and accounts payable. Knowledge of New Jersey State Health and Pension benefits.

  • Experience in preparing payroll, including payment of all payroll taxes and deductions.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, computational and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in use of accounting software systems, preferably in fund accounting and encumbrance systems. Preferable business office experience in a NJ Charter school.

  • Successfully completes criminal history and fingerprinting requirements.

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Term of Employment:


This position has a twelve-month year. Employment is based on a contract agreement as approved by the Village Charter School Board of Trustees.
