Description
Hunterdon Central Regional High School is focused on innovation to achieve a mission grounded in powerful learning and academic achievement, student wellness and sense of belonging, and strong partnerships and service. The regional high school district educates 2,300 students on its 72-acre campus and has been the recipient of numerous national and state awards for outstanding educational programs. The district has rigorous staff training and curriculum development programs which promote a competent, knowledgeable staff with high quality and comprehensive curricular and co-curricular programs. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction develops, implements, and evaluates instructional and staff development programs toward the realization of the district’s mission. The Director reports to the Superintendent, leads staff and administrators, and coordinates articulation with our sending K-8 districts and other partners. The district seeks an outstanding instructional leader with demonstrated proficiencies and a proven track record in instructional strategies and practices, staff development, data-analysis, curriculum development, and educational technology. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, seek collaboration with all district stakeholders, and be committed to the success of every student.
Essential Job Functions
:
Works with principals, department supervisors, and teachers in developing the total school curriculum, and assists in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instructional plan.
Studies, evaluates, and, as appropriate, recommends to the superintendent the adoption of new instructional materials, methods and programs.
Provides leadership in the development of the district instructional program and achievement of state core curriculum content standards and district goals and objectives.
Assists in the implementation of the district's in-service education program for the instructional staff and recommends teacher attendance at conferences participation in other professional growth activities.
Responsible for maintaining articulation with our sending districts, across the curriculum and with other educational partners.
Recommends to the superintendent the addition of new courses, grade placement and credit allowance, and graduation requirements.
Establishes and implements a data-based process for the supervision of the district’s instructional program including curriculum coordination, development, implementation and evaluation.
Schedules and organizes grade level and departmental meetings in order to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program within the district and with sending districts.
Plans and presents a series of meetings each year for the purpose of interpreting to the Board of education and to the parents and public at large the educational program of the schools.
Maintains a curriculum reference library for the use of the staff and collaborates with principals and teachers to develop a common file of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
Secures and makes available to the staff samples of various instructional materials, textbooks and curriculum guides.
Coordinates the selection of textbooks and instructional materials throughout the district through the use of faculty committees and recommends those selected to the superintendent for adoption by the Board of Education.
Keeps abreast of and interprets to the staff the current research in the area of curriculum development, teaching and learning.
Cooperates with the Director of Special Services, the Principal, and staff in planning the instructional program and support services for special education pupils and other students with special needs.
Meets on a regular basis with all department supervisors, special area directors for the purpose of maintaining ongoing supervision of the coordination and implementation of the district curriculum.
Conducts classroom observations and provides supervision/evaluation of teachers and non-certified staff as requested by building principals or central office administrative staff. Assists in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction.
Provides leadership in the development and implementation of a data-based assessment system of student needs and achievement and, based on findings, recommends program adjustments to the Superintendent.
Supervises the operations of the Office of Curriculum and Instruction and its personnel. Supervises all regular education supervisors.
Plans, develops and coordinates research projects to assess the needs of the school community and directs improvement efforts.
Promotes student advocacy to ensure the rights of all students are respected and have equal access to diverse educational opportunities necessary to meet their needs and abilities. Oversees the district’s implementation and compliance with state and federal regulations in educational, instructional and compensatory education programs, including Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Basic Skills.
Acts as a mentor and resource person for administrators and teachers needing assistance with professional improvement plans, observations, reports and annual performance reviews. Coordinates and supervises summer program and curriculum development projects.
Contributes to the positive environment of the department and the school.
Encourages staff to develop programs, services, and projects that reflect instructional diversity, alternatives and flexibility.
Coordinates the completion of all reports and surveys in areas of responsibility as required by law on regulations.
Performs other duties which may be assigned by the Superintendent required by law, code, regulation/Board policy.
Provides leadership and oversees the planning and operations of the state and district teaching programs and provides interpretation and analysis of the results
Requirements
:
Successful experience in teaching and school administration in a high school setting.
Demonstrated leadership in school improvement, program development and curriculum integration and application of technology across the curriculum.
Proven expertise in personalization and differentiation of instruction, student-centered learning, technology integration, and change leadership.
Proven ability to plan, organize and implement large-scale professional development programs.
Evidence of innovation in the use of data to measure efficacy of instructional and professional development programs.
Evidence of engagement in and advocacy through professional associations and other communities of practice.
Knowledge of current research, mandates, and challenges in secondary public education.
Valid New Jersey School Administrator or Principal Certificate.
Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
