Student Assistance Counselor

STUDENT ASSISTANCE COUNSELOR - TENURE TRACK

2024 - 2025 School Year

Beginning December 2, 2024

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
• New Jersey Standard Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC) Certification endorsement required.
• Excellent communication, counseling skills and ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with students.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education, students, and substance use.
• Knowledge of NJSA 18A:40A-1 and procedures for the identification of students possibly abusing drugs, alcohol or other substances and mental health issues / concerns.
• Knowledge of community resources available for the prevention, intervention and treatment, and rehabilitation of alcohol and drug problems, as well as youth mental wellness and crisis intervention
• Ability to use computer network system and software applications including Microsoft Office and virtual platforms like Google Suite for Educators.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with at risk students.
• Knowledge of behavioral modifications and intervention strategies which will improve student behavior and motivate disaffected students.
• Demonstrated ability to lead group counseling and classroom lessons on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
