Description

To promote the achievement of students’ educational goals and behavioral objectives by providing the necessary support and professional interaction within the scope of all assigned duties. To assist the Principal, classroom Teacher or Social Worker in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may effectively learn.  Additional duties include: Maintain classroom attendance, class notes and daily point sheets along with performing other record-keeping functions designated by the classroom Teacher.  Maintain structure and discipline in the alternative classroom setting.  Assist with management and supervision of students in non-instructional settings.  Utilize Agency learning center model of instruction under the guidance of the classroom Teacher to reinforce small group and individual academic activities with students.  Participate and assist with large group activities, treatment team meetings, field trips, athletic events and special school wide activities. Use and reinforce the school -wide positive behavior support program with students. Individually guide students with independent enrichment and remedial work as assigned by the classroom Teacher.  Participate in the organization, preparation and implementation of special events and programs sponsored by the school . Attend staff meetings as scheduled. Demonstrate teamwork, cooperation and courtesy in the workplace. Document significant incidents involving students utilizing Legacy Treatment Services Critical Incident and Restrictive Management Practice Report System. On an as-needed basis, serve as a 1:1 to provide individual academic, behavioral and social guidance/support to an assigned student.  Perform all duties assigned by the Principal. 

 

Hours:

Full time; follows the school calendar

Qualifications:

High School Diploma is required. An Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Knowledge of child growth and development. Knowledge of instructional strategies and appropriate classroom practices that support the successful implementation of the assigned student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).  The ability to demonstrate required proficiencies in the curricular areas identified in the appropriate grade level New Jersey Core Content Standards. Good oral and written communication skills. A valid New Jersey Driver’s License with a documented history of safe driving.  Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal resident alien status.
