Description

Harrison Township School District (PK-6) in Gloucester County has an anticipated opening for a full-time, tenure-track, certified Special Education Elementary School Teacher to provide instruction in all subject areas.  Position will begin September 1, 2024.  NJ TOSD Certification required.  State of New Jersey Standard or Provisional Teacher Certificate, or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing.
                                                           
Qualifications:       State of New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped Certificate
 
The primary responsibility of a Teacher of the Handicapped is to address the academic, social, and emotional needs of special education students.
 
Reports to:            Principal
                              Supervisor of Student Services
                             
 
Performance Responsibilities:
1.       Consult periodically with the Supervisor and members of the Child Study Team in regard to the academic, social, and emotional needs of those students for whom they are responsible.
2.       Participate in periodic meetings with members of the Special Education Program(s) as convened by the Supervisor of Student Services.
3.       Participate in the development/revision of the basic plan and the Individual Educational Plan for those students for whom they are responsible in accordance with N.J.A.C.
4.       Participate in Annual Review conferences in accordance with N.J.A.C.
5.       Participate in Re-evaluation Conferences in accordance with N.J.A.C.
6.       Implement the Individualized Education Plan for each special-needs student for whom the Teacher of the Handicapped is responsible through development of lesson plans and instructional materials.
7.       Provide learning experiences that will best meet the academic needs of his/her students.
8.       Provide a classroom climate conducive to learning by establishing and maintaining appropriate standards of student behavior, as defined by the administration.
9.       In accordance with district programs and policies, administer pupil assessment instruments, interpret test results and adjust instruction so to best meet the academic needs of the students.
10.     Maintain appropriate communication with parents in an effort to provide for the academic, social, and emotional needs of those students for whom the Teacher of the Handicapped is responsible.
11.     Within the special education classroom, the Teacher of the Handicapped is directly responsible for the Special Education Aide assigned to his/her classroom.
12.     Direct the Special Education Aide as to the methods of assistance to be provided to individual students and/or groups.
13.     Confer with regular education staff with whom special-needs students have been placed, on a weekly basis.
14.     Work collaboratively with regular education staff providing in-class support as outlined in students’ IEP’s.
15.     Confer with all staff members in an effort to identify, assess, and meet the needs of pupils, when appropriate.
16.     Supervise students during out-of-classroom activities
17.     Enforce school rules and regulations as directed by the Administration and Board Policy.
18.     Upon the request of the Principal, participate in curriculum development and revisions.
19.     Participate in grade level meetings, as appropriate.
20.     Participate in faculty meetings.
21.     Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through participation in in-service programs, workshops, courses, seminars, etc. to meet Professional Development Goals.
 
 
Terms of Employment:    10 months
 
Evaluation:  In accordance with N.J.A.C. and Employment Contract
