About Us:

The Arc of Essex County is a non-profit organization that provides services and programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Our corporate office is located in Livingston, NJ and we have programs throughout Essex County.

The Arc of Essex County’s Stepping Stones School is a Department of Education approved private school for students with disabilities, serving children ages 3-12. Located in Fairfield, NJ, the school is designed to meet the developmental and educational needs of children with cognitive impairments such as Down Syndrome, and other children with similar educational and developmental needs.

Job Summary:

The Stepping Stones School is looking for a Speech Language Pathologist who will evaluate classroom children and administer varied types of speech therapy and language activities according to individual needs as specified in each child’s IEP.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate students to identify those with previously undetected problems and/or reviews written or verbal information concerning students in order to determine the need for Speech Therapy services.
  • Perform ongoing individualized, detailed, and documented assessments of students known, or suspected of having, handicapping conditions, utilizing evaluative tools and skills unique to Speech Therapists/Pathologists.
  • Participate in the evaluation process to aid in establishing diagnosis, prognosis, problems, goals, placement, and treatment plan.
  • Review and implement each student’s IEP goals and objectives.
  • Plan and prepare written treatment program for each student.
  • Function as an active participant as a member of the transdisciplinary team.
  • Educate and assist student’s family in providing follow up care and communicates with the parents as needed.
  • Attend staff conferences and confers with other team members and consultants.
  • Report and record all unusual events involving a student’s safety, training, and general development.
  • Provide quarterly written progress reports.
  • Periodically work irregular hours, as assigned.
  • Perform any other responsibilities which are assigned by supervisors.

Education / Work Experience / Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Speech Therapy from an accredited university and professional certification
  • NJ Department of Education certification
  • One year documented professional experience with special needs kids and/or pediatric experience
