PRESCHOOL RELIEF TEACHER

Part Time - 10 Month 

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

 Preschool through Grade 3 Standard License. 

  1. Valid New Jersey certificate and/or special area certification of eligibility. 
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of effective early childhood and inclusion teaching practices and developmentally appropriate, differentiated classroom activities. 
  3. Ability to maintain a learning environment inclusive of learners of all abilities. 
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  5. Ability to work collaboratively with staff to ensure inclusion opportunities for students. 
  6. Criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status and a complete physical examination.

 

REPORTS TO: School Principal

 

JOB GOAL: To work in conjunction with Preschool staff, the Preschool Relief Teacher is responsible for supporting the teacher to provide a class environment and instructional program that is conducive to student learning and growth in accordance with the curriculum. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides coverage to preschool staff daily.
  2. Creates an environment of respect and rapport.
  3. Carries out tasks assigned by professional staff effectively. 
  4. Guides children in working and playing with other children. 
  5. Assists with the supervision of children during regular play periods. 
  6. Escorts and assists the children as necessary; tends to physical needs of students which may include toileting, dressing, feeding, lifting, placing students on equipment and other tasks as needed. 
  7. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher. 
  8. Assists with creating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  9. Assists the teacher in guiding the learning process (consistent with the course of study) toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives and communicating these goals and objectives to the students. 
  10. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.
  11. Reads to students, listens to students and participates in other forms of communication with students. 
  12. Performs other duties that may be assigned by his/her superior(s) under authority of the Board of Education. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary for a ten-month work year

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified staff. 

COMPENSATION: Per QEA Agreement
