JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE: In-class Support Preschool Special Education Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid New Jersey Teaching Certification- Preschool through Grade 3 (1013) and Students with Disabilities (2475) CE, CEAS or Standard Certification.
  2. Demonstrates strong skills in the areas of evidence-based instructional strategies and tiered interventions.
  3. Strong knowledge of Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards and NJ Preschool Classroom Teaching Guidelines
  4. Experience with integrating Social and Emotional Learning/PBSIS
  5. Experience or knowledge with ABA programming and the ability to utilize communication devices preferred.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship.
  8. Pass a physical examination in accordance with statue and board policy.

 

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

 

POSITION GOALS:      

 

Provides a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. To enhance the success of students in the educational environment and in the implementation of behavior programs which may include instructional strategies and techniques based on the principles of applied behavior analysis and PBIS.  

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides developmentally appropriate instruction to special needs preschoolers in a full day program.

 

Establishes and maintains a classroom that is safe, stimulating and age appropriate

 

Provides written reports or updates of students’ current levels of function as needed for the IEP process.

 

Generates goals and objectives directly related to identified student needs in collaboration with support staff.

 

Instructs to the goals and objectives as well as providing other developmentally appropriate preschool instructional activities, facilitating student experiences in language, art, music, play, motor development, self-help skills, social interaction, and other normal areas of preschool instruction

 

Provides on-going support to parents, providing parents with suggestions for activities to enhance their child’s learning and establishing opportunities for parents to volunteer during our preschool parent nights.

 

Works closely with a multi-disciplinary team, such as speech therapist, occupational therapist, and physical therapist to provide collaborative instruction to students.

 

Assists with transition of students from preschool to primary programs by providing updated information on students’ functioning levels, visiting primary programs where possible and consulting with parents and other staff

 

Facilitate data collection and analysis to monitor student progress and collaborate with educational teams to develop functional behavior assessments and relevant interventions for students experiencing behavioral concerns in the school environment

 

 

Collaborates well with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies.

 

Deliver lessons using a variety of differentiated instructional techniques that are appropriate to the academic level and meet the diverse needs of students

 

Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.

 

Demonstrated professional behavior, including discretion, judgment, and integrity.

 

Participation in collaborative grade level meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve the focus of instructional planning and student achievement.

 

Assists preschool level teams in setting goals for improved instruction and PIRT implementation.

 

Meets regularly with the coach and/ or principal to review benchmarks and established data points to assess student progress towards established instructional goals.

 

Attends PLC meetings and professional trainings as directed.

 

Performs other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as may be assigned by administration under authority of the board of education.

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Ten months per year

 

Salary to be determined by the Board of Education negotiation process. Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and provisions of the board's policy on the evaluation of certified staff.
