Description TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR
 
The Secaucus Board of Education invites qualified and interested individuals to apply for the position of TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR.
 
                                            QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Minimum of a High School degree or equivalent
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license with driving privileges in good standing
  • Willing to obtain CDL Class B with P&S endorsements
  • Minimum transportation experience as determined by the district
  • Knowledge of state laws and regulations governing school bus construction and maintenance, and pupil transportation
  • Demonstrated skills in personnel management, route scheduling, fleet maintenance and cost containment
  • Experience in word processing and computer knowledge required with demonstrated ability to input, manipulate and retrieve data
  • Experience with transportation software preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • New Jersey Transportation Supervisor certificate or be able to obtain within two years
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
 
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Assume responsibilities for the safe and efficient operation of the school transportation program
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and board policy related to school transportation
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises the performance of all transportation personnel, and makes recommendation regarding their employment
  • Prepares all transportation records and reports as required by law, code, or board policy
  • Oversees notification, documentation and arrangements for parents/guardians providing written statements waiving transportation services (NJAC 6A:27-1-4)
  • Prepares all bus routes, determines bus stops, pickup times, and ensures compliance with bus capacity limitations.
  • Develops and administers a transportation program to meet the needs of the daily instructional program, field trips and extra-curricular activities
  • Coordinates authorized transportation services for community groups in accordance with board policies
  • Evaluates methods for transportation students attending a special education or vocational school outside the district and nonpublic school students
  • Prepares and administers the transportation budget
  • Conducts an annual cost analysis of the transportation operation
  • Develops recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs
  • Works with the Business Administration/Board Secretary to formulate specification for transportation contracts with private vendors as necessary
  • Makes recommendations for the purchase of new vehicles, and assists in the preparation of bid specifications
  • Maintains all district owned vehicles; develops a plan for prevention maintenance
  • Promotes the safety of pupils through preservice and regularly scheduled Inservice training of bus drivers
  • Periodically inspects all board operated buses for cleanliness and proper maintenance
  • Works cooperatively with principals to arrangements bus emergency evacuation drills
  • Ensures the timely State inspection of all board operated buses
  • Advises the Superintendent and Business Administrator/Board Secretary on road conditions for decisions on school closing during inclement weather
  • Maintains an individual and permanent file on each board owned vehicle as required under law and makes the files available for inspection upon request
  • Responds to transportation inquires by the public and handles all complaints
  • Investigates complaints of inappropriate behavior by transportation staff while on duty and preserve evidence in order to have fair inquiries and prompt resolution to all complaints
  • Maintains a detailed log of transportation complaints, incidents, and problems situations, in order to record the investigation and resolutions of these problems and to identify and recurrent patterns of problem situations
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned

SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT
 
Salary Range:               Negotiated based on experience
Employment Period:   June 24, 2024, through August 30, 2024
