Literacy Coach

The Literacy Coach ensures students receive high-quality literacy instruction. The Coach will work with administrators and teachers to align their work with district priorities. He/she will lead data sessions that look at both formative and summative assessment results and suggest and monitor intervention strategies and materials for struggling students. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ abilities to provide instruction that builds students’ literacy skills, is academically rigorous, addresses the curriculum standards and enhances students’ engagement and ownership of their learning.

 

Specific Responsibilities

 

  •  Coach teachers in providing high quality reading instruction, including decoding, fluency, comprehension, phonic and phonemic awareness.
  •  Lead high-quality curriculum rollouts and teacher professional development opportunities that engage teachers in culturally responsive, rigorous reading instruction
  • Lead data analysis meetings of students’ formative and summative assessments.
  •   Monitor progress against assessment cycle benchmarks, as well as BOY and EOY benchmarks.
  • Provide real time feedback to teachers during instruction.
  • Conduct weekly observations and team teach with teachers to support implementation of action steps
  • Establish a clear curriculum that provides teachers with lesson plans, materials, and texts
  • Create scope and sequence, goals and objectives  for the instructional year. 
  • Analyze interim assessment data and assist teacher in developing interventions to address the conceptual gaps in 1st through 4th grade
  • Support teachers in small group guided reading instruction, whole group literacy instruction, and writing instruction.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education required.
  • New Jersey  Certification as an Elementary Teacher with 5+ years of experience
  • Reading Specialist Certificate (ELA) 
  • Masters Degree in related area preferred.
  • Prior experience as an effective elementary school coach preferred
  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels preferred

Employment Status: This is a full-time, ten month year, at-will position.
